Three Bonnies earn All-Conference honors

Nov. 7, 2007

ST. BONAVENTURE, N.Y. - St. Bonaventure senior Kristin Sotak, freshman Sarah Clark and freshman Anna Cunningham all earned postseason honors from the Atlantic 10 Conference on Wednesday.

In voting done by the conference head coaches, Sotak was selected to the All-Conference second team, while Clark and Cunningham garnered All-Rookie team accolades. Sotak was also named to the Academic All-Conference squad.

"I'm so happy for Kristin, Anna and Sarah. They were the three players that conference coaches spoke to me about consistently after each of our conference matches and so I'm glad they were recognized for their outstanding play," said head coach Manoj Khettry.

The All-Conference accolade is the first of Sotak's career. The Endwell, N.Y. product spent the entire season as a defensive midfielder, helping a much-improved Bona defense post five shutouts. A versatile player, Sotak also contributed on the offensive end with two goals and one assist. Earlier in the year, she was named to the Cleveland State Fall Classic All-Tournament team after scoring the game-winning goal against the host Vikings.

In the classroom, Sotak boasts an impressive 3.85 cumulative Grade-Point Average as a psychology major with a double-minor in Spanish and business administration.

"Kristin has come a long way in her development as a player since our staff got here and it's wonderful to see her ending her career on an upswing," Khettry said. "No one has worked harder than Kristin to improve on a daily basis."

Along side Sotak, Clark helped anchor a much-improved Bona defense that allowed 10 less goals than the 2006 squad. Clark was one of two players on the team to start all 19 games and the only one to log every minute of every game.

Cunningham provided an offensive spark in her first season, finishing second on the team with 13 points. Those points ranked fourth among all A-10 freshmen, while her six assists were second and four goals were fifth. Cunningham also led the team in shots (50) over 18 games played. Her biggest game of the season came at Temple when she recorded the first multi-goal game of her career in a 3-0 win over the Owls.

"Anna and Sarah are great young additions to our team and will certainly help form the nucleus of our team as we move this program forward."

The Bonnies completed the 2007 season with a record of 5-12-2 overall, collecting three more wins than the previous campaign. St. Bonaventure will return 14 players next season, including its top four point producers.
