Men's Tennis lands four on A-10 All-Conference teams

April 23, 2008

ST. BONAVENTURE, N.Y. - Following a successful Atlantic 10 Tournament in which St. Bonaventure finished in third place, the team received more good news as four players have been named to the league All-Conference teams.

Junior Victor Lecina earned first team honors while classmates Jonathan Luce and Leo Mochizuki along with freshman Diego Valdenegro. All four had solid performances at the A-10 Tournament leading the Bonnies to a 3-1 mark.

Lecina spent the better part of the spring season as the team's top singles player. The Barcelona, Spain product went 2-1 in singles action at the A-10 Tournament and finished the season with eight singles wins and 10 in doubles play.

Luce was the match-clinching point at No. 3 singles in St. Bonaventure's 4-3 win over defending champ Charlotte in the third place match. Luce went 12-19 on the year in single play, including 2-1 at the tournament.

Unlike his other All-Conference winning teammates, Mochizuki made a strong impression on the conference competition in doubles play. Mochizuki teamed with freshman Chris Post to go a perfect 3-0 at the A-10 Tournament, leading to two crucial doubles points for the Bonnies. Even though he started all singles matches at No. 2 in the tournament, Mochizuki went just 1-0 due to the matches ending early with enough points. For the season, Mochizuki picked up seven singles win between the No. 1 and No. 2 slot.

The All-Conference accolade is the second in as many years for Valdenegro, who did most of his damage from the five spot in the lineup. Valdenegro went a perfect 4-0 in singles play at the A-10 tournament and won his last seven matches to end the season. In the spring season, Valdenegro finished 10-4 in singles play, including a 6-1 mark against A-10 foes.
