Final Stats

OLEAN, N.Y. - A school and tournament record has St. Bonaventure seven shots ahead going into the final round of the 17th St. Bonaventure Leo Keenan Invitational at Bartlett Country Club.

Sunday in ideal conditions, the Bonnies posted a team score of two-over par 282, a tournament record by six shots and a school record by two. Freshman Brennan Payne led the way with a one-under par 69, good for a share of the individual lead. Junior Ben Howe, sophomore Ryan Swanson and classmate Andy Whalen all shot 71. The Bonnies did not even need to count the 74 posted by senior co-captain Josh Anderson.

Drexel is in second place at 289 (+9) followed by Cornell, Niagara and Youngstown State at 295. Binghamton and Bucknell are tied for sixth place at 297. Robert Morris and Duquesne are tied for eighth at 299. A total of 15 teams are competing in the Keenan (see the team standings below).

St. Bonaventure bettered the school mark of 284 from last month's Bucknell Invitational, which the Bonnies won. The previous 18-hole Keenan Invitational record was 288 set by the Bonnies in the first round in 2001.

"It was an outstanding round by our guys under fantastic conditions," Bonnies coach Steve Campbell said of Sunday's record. "The course is in perfect shape and the weather was conducive to low scores. However, there are some very good teams behind us, chiefly Drexel, who is very talented. This tournament is not over by any means."

Binghamton junior Aaron Ungvarsky, Long Island junior Patrick Kelly and Drexel senior Keith Synder are tied with Payne for the individual lead at one-under par. Drexel's Patrick Hardin is in second place at even par 70 while the trio of Howe, Swanson and Whalen, plus St. Bonaventure freshman Jim Gifford, who is playing for the Bonnies' "B" team, are tied for third place at +1.

The 36-hole event concludes on Monday with a shotgun start at 9:30 a.m.
