Bona golfers take 5th at Cornell

ITHACA, N.Y. - The St. Bonaventure golf team finished in fifth place Sunday in the 15-team, 54-hole Cornell University Invitational at Robert Trent Jones Golf course in Ithaca, N.Y. St. Bonaventure entered today's final round in sixth place with a 602, five shots out of third place. The Bonnies posted a 307 in the third round to finish with a 909, four shots behind third-place Bucknell. St. Joseph's, led by medalist Billy Stewart, took the tournament title tournament with a three-round total 881, 22 strokes ahead of second-place Niagara. Stewart posted a 78 Sunday to finish the tournament with a 212. Sophomore Andy Whalen came in sixth in the individual standings with the Bonnies' best score, a 72-76-72/220. Senior Josh Anderson posted a 79 in the final round to finish the tournament at 227. Sophomore Ryan Swanson wrapped up play with a 232 while junior Ben Howe rounded out the Bonnies' score with a 239. The Bonnies return to St. Bonaventure Oct. 2 for the 17th Annual St. Bonaventure Leo Keenan Invitational at Bartlett Country Club. Play begins at 9:30 a.m.
