Bona in 6th at Cornell

ITHACA, N.Y. - The St. Bonaventure golf team stands in sixth place after two rounds of the 15-team, 54-hole Cornell University Invitational at Robert Trent Jones Golf course in Ithaca, N.Y. The Bona golfers wrapped up the first two rounds with a 298-304/602, leaving them five shots out of third place. St. Joseph's leads the tournament after firing an 11-under-par 277 in the first round followed by second-round 297 for a two-round total 574. Rider is in a distant second place, 17 strokes behind the Hawks. St. Joseph's Billy Stewart leads the individual standings after posting a Robert Trent Jones Golf Course record 63 in the first round. He followed with a one-under-par 71 to end the day with a 134. Senior Josh Anderson and sophomore Andy Whalen led St. Bonaventure, shooting identical scores of 72-76/148. Junior Ben Howe posted a 74-76/150. Sophomore Ryan Swanson had the Bonnies' fourth score, an 80-76/156. Coach Steve Campbell said, "If we play well tomorrow, I think we can climb as high as third." The Bonnies tee off for the final round tomorrow at 9 a.m.
