Bonnies finish fifth at Navy Invitational

ANNAPOLIS, Md. - St. Bonaventure finished tied for fifth place out of 15 teams Sunday at the Navy Fall Golf Invitational at the U.S. Naval Academy Golf Course.

The Bonnies did not budge in the standings after wrapping up the first round tied with St. Joseph's and Towson in fifth place Saturday.

The Bona golfers shot a 303 in Sunday's final round for a tournament total 602. St. Joseph's and Winthrop shared the fifth place spot.

George Mason won the tournament with a 578, 17 strokes ahead of George Washington and Towson, which tied for second place.

St. Joseph's Colin Corrigan won medalist honors after posting a 71-72/143 and winning an 11-hole playoff.

Sophomore Andy Whalen and senior Josh Anderson led the Bonnies with a 72-77/149 and a 75-74/149, respectively, good for 18th in the overall standings.

Sophomore Ryan Swanson finished two strokes behind, posting a 76-75/151. Junior Ben Howe rounded out the Bonnies' five-man score with a 76-77/153.

"We had a tough time on the greens today," St. Bonaventure coach Steve Campbell said. "Overall, it was a very respectable first tournament."

The Bonnies will return to action Sept. 16-17 in the Bucknell Fall Invitational.
