Golf tied for fifth at Navy Invitational

ANNAPOLIS, Md. - St. Bonaventure is tied for fifth place out of 15 teams after Saturday's first round of the Navy Fall Golf Invitational at the U.S. Naval Academy Golf Course. The Bonnies shot a 299 and are tied with Saint Joseph's and Towson. George Mason and Siena are tied for the lead with a team score of 293. Sophomore Andy Whalen led the Bonnies with an opening-day 72 (+1). He is tied for seventh place out of 81 golfers in the field. Senior Josh Anderson shot 75 while sophomore Ryan Swanson and junior Ben Howe each carded a 76. Bryan Bigley of Siena was medalist of the day with a 2-under-par 69. "For the opening round of the season, it was solid," St. Bonaventure coach Steve Campbell said. "However, I think we could still be a bit better." The Navy Invitational will conclude with 18 holes on Sunday.
