May 9, 2008

ST. BONAVENTURE, N.Y. - Less than 24 hours removed from receiving one the school's first accolades of its kind, senior Randy Moley received an award he's very familiar with as the centerfielder earned a spot on the ESPN The Magazine Academic All-District first team for the third straight year, in voting conducted the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA).

The reigning Atlantic 10 baseball Student-Athlete of the Year, Moley sports a 3.95 cumulative grade-point average as a management sciences major. With his District 1 first team distinction, he is now eligible for ESPN The Magazine Academic All-America® consideration.

On Thursday, Moley learned that he would be featured in the "Faces In The Crowd" section of the May 12 issue of Sports Illustrated. The feature can be found on page 28 of this week's issue that has New Orleans Hornets guard Chris Paul and San Antonio Spurs guard Tony Parker on the cover. The on-line version of the feature can be viewed at www.si/faces.com.

Moley is in the midst of one of the best statistical seasons in program history in his final campaign in the Brown and White. The Lancaster, N.Y. product leads the Atlantic 10 and entered the week fourth in the nation with a .429 batting average. Moley has already set the single-season record for hits in a season with 73 while leading the team in nearly every offensive category including runs scored (50), doubles (17), home runs (6), RBI (51), slugging percentage (.635), on-base percentage (.510) and stolen bases.

It's been a year of milestones for Moley, who earlier this month became the fifth player in program history to go over 200 career hits. Moley began the season on a 20-game hit streak that dated back four games into the 2007 season. Through 44 games this year, Moley has a hit in 35 contests, including 24 multi-hit performances and a school single-game record six against Boston College on March 1. Moley ranks in the top five all-time in Bonaventure history in hits (202), runs (126) and doubles (43).

Moley and the Bonnies (24-20) will have to wait until Saturday to open their three-game Atlantic 10 set at Saint Joseph's due to rain in the Philadelphia area. The two teams will now open with a doubleheader on Saturday beginning at 1 p.m.
